Hyundai has cause to celebrate with their flagship luxury sedan, Genesis, scoring full points in the reason ANCAP in their recent test in the land down under. This is the first time in ANCAP’s 21 year history that a car has rated this high on their safety score, not only did the Genesis score a maximum of five stars it also has the highest “overall” score.
A little low-down on what cars are subjected to in an ANCAP test. Cars are required to go through a 64kph frontal offset test and a 50kph side impact test, along with a 29kph pole test, a whiplash test simulating a 32kph rear-end crash and a 40kph pedestrian impact test. Include a minimum number of active safety assist technologies (SATs) and the car would receive either a full on five star rating or less, which is the measure of vehicle safety protection for occupants and pedestrians.
Out of a full score of 37 points the Genesis raked in tally of 36.88 points. The luxury sedan raked in a frontal offset score of 15.88 out of 16 and a side impact protection of 16 out of 16 along with a score of two out of two in the pole test and a whiplash protection test rating of “good”. It’s almost full marks all around for the Genesis!
Even the testers of ANCAP were impressed to see the word “Standard” listed against almost every feature on the Genesis’ checklist. ANCAP’s Chairman Mr Lauchlan McIntosh emphasised that automatic emergency braking comes as a standard feature on the Genesis, one that has recently been left off many new models hitting the Australian shores.
Hyundai is proud to be adding another car in their range of models available in Australia that has been rated five stars in the ANCAP safety rating other than the iLoad van and iMax people mover rated at four stars.
