News: Jeep puts faith in these four in hopes to make a good comeback
Distributed by DRB-HICOM, their stay might be even longer this time round, especially when it comes with a 5-year/150,000 warranty. By Chris Ng
Grand Cherokee Overland
The big daddy of the bunch, this SUV finds motivation from a 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 paired with an eight-speed automatic mapped to save fuel, hinting on just the kind of performance you’ll get. At least the Grand Cherokee doesn’t seem underpowered – on paper, at least. 284bhp at 6350rpm and 347Nm at 4,300rpm are the numbers the V6 is able to crunch out.
It comes standard with the Quadra-Lift Air Suspension and Selec-Terrain Vehicle Management System, all of which pushes the vehicles weight to over 2.1tonnes.

Cherokee Trailhawk
In the diverse range of SUVs we have on our shores, the Cherokee Trailhawk is arguably the best looking one for under RM380,000. Behind that Hannibal-eqsue grille is an inline-four 2.4-litre Tigershark MultiAir 2 engine. Trailhawk? Tigershark? Gotta love Jeep’s codenames. In any case, the engine promises 174bhp at 6,400 and 229Nm at 3900. A nine-speed automatic sends power to all four wheels.
Despite its urban looks, the ability to lock its rear-axle and the Selec-Terrain with Rock mode reveals its off-roading capability. Helps too, when you know it can wade in waters of up to half-metre deep.

Wrangler
Also known as MacGyver’s bullet-evader/bad-guy-chaser/getaway/date vehicle of choice. For Malaysia, the Wrangler will come in three versions – the two-door Rubicon and the four-door Unlimited Sports and Unlimited Sahara. All three versions are powered by the same powerplant that gives motivation to the Grand Cherokee – the 3.6-litre Pentastar V6. The Wranglers ride on a body-on-frame design, front and rear five-link suspension system and live solid axles.

Compass Limited
The compact Compass Limited is the entryway to get into the world of Jeep; its ticket price is that dear compared to the other five. It’s powered by a 2.4-litre engine, mated to a six-speed automatic, riding on MacPherson struts upfront and multilink rears. Just as the rest of Jeep’s offering, the Compass Limited is also driven by all four wheels.
