News: Mazda Medicare Fund gives hope to renal patients
CSR activity by Prima Merdu and Bermaz Motor with B. Braun Avitum Renal Services aims to ease financial burden on patients. By Chris Ng
Unless you are extremely wealthy, the cost of haemodialysis treatment will eventually become a massive burden forcing the typical patient to make extremely hard choices about their life, which also causes great pressure on their families and loves ones. A typical patient would have to undergo treatment three times a week for as long as the patient is able; the financial burden will eventually be great. This is why the Mazda Medicare Fund (MMF) is important.
The MMF aims to provide life-saving haemodialysis treatment for renal patients with financial constraints, irrespective of race and religion. Eligible patients would receive subsidised treatments at any one of B. Braun’s 12 dialysis centres in Malaysia. Prima Merdu and Bermaz Motor have contributed RM1million to the fund.
In his speech, Dato Sri Ben Yeoh stated that he and his Senior Executives have pledged to contribute a part of their salaries to the fund for the next five years.
Mrs. Anna Maria Braun, President of B. Braun Asia Pacific, said that the Mazda Medicare Fund will enable B. Braun Avitum to reach more patients that require the life-saving treatment.
During the event, 65-year old Yap Lay Eng and Chan Benny, 29, were the first to benefit from the Mazda Medicare Fund. MMF has allowed Yap and Chan to undergo treatment three times a week; before this both only received treatments twice a week.
