Japan is currently enduring the year’s fiercest storm it didn’t stop Mazda from winning the Car of the Year award for their Mazda 2.
While the Formula 1 world is still sore about Jules Bianchi’s crash into a recovery vehicle in Suzuka two weeks ago, the typhoon that had plague the race had weakened to allow another type of storm brew.
The storm in question is the Car of the Year awards, happening at the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation on Tokyo Bay. The Car of the Year awards had their audience in rapt attention and sitting at the edge of their seats with the nail-biting finale to crown the Car of the Year.
We have a Mercedes going head to head with a Mazda for the final round. The models in contentions are the C-Class and the Mazda2. And competition was intense. The Mazda2 made a huge come back and won the award to win by 19 votes over the C-Class, making Mazda’s win the second award in three years. The Mazda2 polled 423 votes to win while the C-Class collected a total of 404 votes.
Just like the CX-5 that won the award in 2012, the Mazda2 is shares the same traits. Couple the unique styling and Skyactiv technology, don’t forget to add excellent mileage and reasonable pricing, and you will get an award winning compact car.
In the top five winners we have the BMW i3 coming in third with 340 votes, Subaru’s Levorg finishing fourth with 124 votes and the Suzuki Hustler ending in fifth with 65 votes.
In other categories, the BMW i3 picked up the “Innovation Award”, the “Honda N-WGN” captured the “Small Mobility Award” and Toyota grabbed the “Special Achievement Award” for its Fuel Cell program.
Congratulations to Mazda for their win.
