Renault has always had a huge market in Algeria, the second biggest automotive market on the African continent. The plant has a production capacity of 25,000 units and Renault hopes that in the long term it would be increased to 75,000.
It has been 90 years since Renault’s entrance into the Algerian market and to celebrate their success there, they were the unrivalled leader in the Algerian automotive market, they decided to create an alliance with the Algerian government to build the Renault Algerie Production plant.
The plant is the result of a robust cooperative initiative between Renault and Algeria that gives birth to an automotive industry in Algeria. Renault ensures that the highest quality standards are achieved to satisfy the needs of Algerian customers and to continue Renault’s success in the country.
The company is known as Renault Algerie Production, founded in January 2013, they will run the production plant in Algeria. The plant’s presence itself has created a huge working opportunity in the country, almost 350 employees were recruited and 40 per cent of them are women. In addition to that some 500 new jobs were created in subcontracting.
Located in Oued Tlelat, the plant is not far from Oran that is the second largest urban area with roughly one million inhabitants. Being close to Oran also gives the plant easy access to the port, one of the reasons Renault decided to build their plant there.
Renault Algerie Production is the start of the automotive industry in Algeria. The plant will be producing the high-end version of the New Renault Symbol, one of the best-selling models in Algeria to satisfy the Algerian needs and to continue Renault’s eight year market leadership.
