News: Top car in mini-car category is the Mirage

Mitsubishi Mirage comes home with top ratings in the ASEAN NCAP Grand Prix Awards in its category. By Jerrica Leong

We know that the Proton Preve walked away from the ASEAN NCAP Grand Prix Awards with top honours in the C-segment category. While Proton celebrates let’s take a look at the mini-car category winner.

CAR has tried and tested the Mirage back in July and we liked it. It’s not a wonder that this car came home with ASEAN NCAP awards with top ratings in the Adult Occupancy Protection in the mini-car category.

The Grand Prix Awards 2014 was held in Kuching, Sarawak. This is the first time ever with participation from various car manufacturers, industry experts and members of the media. The awards focuses on the recognition of high achievers in test results released up till August 2014.

The ASEAN NCAP crash test procedure is conducted through a frontal crash test. The test will have a vehicle, fitted with sensors and passenger dummies that would register the impact forces, run into an aluminium barrier at 64kph.

With a score of 13.07 out of 16.00 (which means the Mirage receives a four star rating), the Mirage comes out top of its class. This rating is also applicable to the Mitsubishi Attrage GLS or equivalent variant with similar safety specifications.

Receiving this award is testament to the high safety standards of the Mitsubishi Eco Cars in Thailand and its export markets. Congratulations to Mitsubishi for their top ratings.
