News: Toyota's search for bright young talent

Toyota’s Dream Car Art Contest makes a return this year to search for Malaysia’s young talent. By Jerrica Leong

The Toyota Dream Car Art Contest invites children aged 15 years and below from all corners of the globe, yes it’s not just in Malaysia, to share ideas about the future of mobility by drawing their dream cars. This was held as part of the Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) Japan social contribution initiatives.

This year, the contest attracted over 660,000 entries from 75 countries, of which more than 1,100 entries from children in Malaysia during the National phase. There are a total of 31 award winners from the top 90 selected finalists who are then presented with Gold, Silver, Bronze and Best Finalist awards for three categories.

There is also one special category which is known as the President Akio Toyoda Award where the winner is personally selected by Toyota Motor Corporation’s President Akio Toyoda himself.

The competition came to a close with a total of 31 finalists from 22 countries at an award show held at Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC)’s vehicle experience facility in Tokyo, Japan.

Two entries from Malaysia made it to the final round of the contest. Asher Royce Anthony represented Malaysia in the category for children below eight years old and Evonne Tan Wei Ni took on other entries in the eight to eleven years old category.

Asher Royce Anthony brought home the Gold prize in the national phase contest but did not manage to score a win the finals. Evonne Tan Wei Ni on the other hand brought home the Bronze award with her artwork “Underwater Musical Vehicle”.
