KUALA LUMPUR: Johor Police Chief Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay has stressed that fugitive businessman, Datuk Seri Nicky Liow Soon Hee, will be arrested soon.
Currently, his team is streamlining the investigation so that there is solid evidence to prosecute him in court, and some time is needed for that.
“My style, when I catch him, I will make sure he is charged. When charged, I want him convicted.
"I don't want to catch and after that, silent and go free, like Addy Kana. To catch is one thing, but where does it end?
"Has anyone been accused? I'm not sure. But I don't want that," he explained.
Talking about Nicky, Ayob Khan said the 33-year-old man had been carrying out his activities since 2014 on a scale that was impossible not to be detected by the authorities.
However, due to his relationship and influence with several members and officials of the authorities as well as dignitaries, he continued to operate without any interruption, until recently.
“After two or three reports received from the victims of the syndicate, we opened two investigation papers and I asked my officers to investigate thoroughly, layer by layer.
“Finally, it was found that one of the syndicate's transactions went into Datuk Nicky's account.
"From there, we can develop, and in my time, I got information from other parties who said before this he had provided information to many parties, but nothing moves, no action.
“So, I discussed with the agency, we want to arrest (the suspect) under organised crime.
"This is the first time in the history of commercial offences that we are arresting under SOSMA," Ayob explained.
At least 34 officers and men from the enforcement agencies who were involved and protecting the Nicky Gang have been arrested while police are on the hunt for the head of the syndicate.
Most recently, police have enlisted the help of Interpol to track down the man, and photos of him have been distributed throughout border checkpoints in an effort to prevent the criminal from escaping abroad.
Undoubtedly, Ayob admitted that he had seen comments on social media disputing the actions of the police who were still unable to arrest the main suspect of the syndicate.
Yet Ayob knows what he is doing, and he needs some time so that his arrest would be worth it and the offender will definitely get his punishment.
