Police rescued a 44-year-old Indonesian maid who was said to have been working without pay by her employer since three years ago at a house here on March 25.
Nilai District Police chief Supt Zaldano Zaludin said an eight-man team raided the house at 1 am on the same day they were tipped off by the Indonesian Embassy.
"Her employer, a doctor, was also detained in the raid. We questioned him and let him go on a court order on the same day to complete our investigation. The maid was sent to a shelter in Kuala Lumpur," he told Bernama here today.
He said this when met at a community policing and Safe Town carnival which was launched by state deputy police chief SAC Muhamad Zaki Harun at Dataran Nilai, near here.
The case was being investigated under Section 12 under the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 (ATIPSOM) which provided mandatory caning and jail upon conviction.
