MOHD ROZI: If Datuk Azmi feels that this case is slanderous, then he can take further action if he wants. But police will still continue to investigate the case. - Astro AWANI
Police have recorded a statement from an individual claiming to be assaulted by Bayu assemblyman, Datuk Azmi Che Hussain in front of a shopping centre in Aman Central here last May 15.
Kota Setar police chief, ACP Mohd Rozi Jidin, said the police would not be biased in their investigation into the matter.
He said the police were still gathering information on the case to ensure that justice is served, including calling up the complainant and his girlfriend.
"For Datuk Azmi, if he feels that this matter is slanderous, he can take further action if he wants.
"However, we'd still continue with our investigation to ensure fairness towards the complainant. Several witnesses have already been called up today," he said when contacted by Astro AWANI on Sunday.
Early investigations found that a misunderstanding had occurred between Azmi's two sons and the complainant, which triggered the incident.
In the incident, the complainant claimed that he and his girlfriend were beaten up by several individuals after they were pulled out of their car.
A 34-second video footage of the incident also went viral on social media recently.
The case is currently being investigated under Section 323 for causing injury.
