No bomb in KLIA, only a picture of an employee named 'Bom' went viral

Police have dismissed rumours that a bomb was found nearby the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) here yesterday.

The rumours which spread quickly on social media caused panic among the public.

Sepang police chief ASP Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim confirmed to reporters here today that police did not receive any such report.

"No bomb was found near KLIA yesterday. This is not true," he said, adding that he was aware of the claim that was spread on social media.

According to the message that was spread on the Whatsapp application since yesterday, a bomb had been placed within a 30-kilometre radius of KLIA.

However, a picture uploaded with message showed the employment pass of a male MASKargo employee named 'Bom'.

Earlier, Mohd Iqbal had received a letter of appreciation from famous Chinese painter Chen Shijie over the Sepang police's success in recovering six of his works worth RM1.5 million which were stolen at KLIA on Nov 20 last year.

"I want to thank my friends from IPD Sepang especially ASP Mohd Iqbal for their success in recovering the historic paintings. I appreciate the efficiency of Sepang police," he said.

Shijie's message was conveyed in English by his Malaysian friend, who only wanted to be known as Teng, 65.

Besides Mohd Iqbal, Shijie also presented Sepang deputy police chief Supt Zaldino Zaludin an appreciation letter.

Sepang police recovered the stolen paintings at a house in Damansara, Kuala Lumpur last Dec 6 and arrested eight individuals including the owner of a gallery with the title of "Datuk" in connection with the case.
