The Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development will not compromise in taking action on registered nurseries found to be negligent and resulting in injury to the children in its care.
Its minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim said the ministry had sealed nurseries found guilty of these offences, but this action would only be taken after exhaustive investigations by the police.
In connection with this, she urged all parties to be patient and wait until the police had completed investigating a claim that a four-month-old baby girl, Putri Wafa Saifudin who is in a coma following bleeding in the brain and eyes, is suspected to have been abused by the childminders at a nursery in Alor
Setar, Kedah.
"We have checked and my officer has also gone to the nursery. It is really registered (with the Welfare Department) and everything was found to follow standard procedures," she said.
Rohani was speaking to reporters at attending a Ramadan event at the Sultanah Hajah Kalsom Children's Home in Penor near here on Saturday.
She said that for now, the nursery would still operate as usual until the ministry uncovered what had really happened.
The baby's father, Saifudin Seman, 26, had lodged a police report claiming that his daughter was believed to have been the victim of abuse or neglect by the childminders at the nursery, and claimed that the owner of the nursery had sent his daughter to the hospital on Wednesday after she had fits and became
unconscious.
Kedah Health Director Datuk Dr Norhizan Ismail said checks on the baby who is in a critical stage at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital, Alor Setar, found that she had bleeding in both eyes and brain.
Rohani also advised the public to be constantly alert and to come forward to report any abuse cases or to contact Talian Kasih at 15999 for an immediate investigation.
At the ceremony, Rohani also presented donations worth RM12,500 to 250 children from nurseries and Quran memorising centres around Kuantan and Pekan.
