The Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry has not made a decision to stop the import of beef and chicken meat from Brazil, said its Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek.
He said his ministry would continue to monitor the meat imports from that country more closely.
He said there was no issue with the products as the processing plants involved in the meat scandal in Brazil were not among the 21 approved by the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS).
"We will decide later whether to continue bringing in the meat products from Brazil. So far, the amount of imports from Brazil is not much," he told reporters after officiating 'eUsahawan' and 'eRezeki' programmes at the National Youth Skills Institute (IKBN) here today.
Yesterday, the DVS confirmed that beef and chicken meat imported from Brazil were not connected to the 21 processing plants involved in the meat scandal in that country.
The department also said meat products brought in from Brazil were safe for consumption. - BERNAMA
