No discussions nor decision made at Cabinet level on toll rate hike - Works Ministry
According to the ministry, the government should pay a compensation estimated to involve RM593 million if the government did not agree to the increase in toll rates.
No discussions were held nor decision made in the cabinet on the issue of toll rate hikes so far, according to the Ministry of Works.
The ministry in a statement today, said that based on the concession agreement, eight highways have been listed as eligible for toll hikes next year.
According to the ministry, the government should pay a compensation estimated to involve RM593 million if the government did not agree to the increase in toll rates.
"The ministry is aware of the financial burden borne by the people at the moment, so the government will try to find a solution by negotiating and coming to a mutual agreement with the concessionaires," the statement said.
"The basic principle of these negotiations is based on a win-win situation between the government and the concessionaires," said the ministry.
