The Veterinary Services Department has confirmed that there is no human deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) found in a kid with human-like features in Kota Tinggi, Johor, which went viral on social media recently.
Its director-general Datuk Dr Kamarudin Md Isa said the kid died in the womb and its strange features were caused by a genetic abnormality.
"It is a fetal anomaly. There is no issue that the kid was born through unnatural sexual intercourse. Such perception is wrong," he told a press conference here Friday.
On April 24, a Felda Sungai Mas settler was shocked when he found out that one of his goats had given birth to a kid that had the features of a human.
As such, Dr Kamaruddin called on all quarters to stop making speculations and spreading inaccurate information over the incident.
Dr Kamarudin said the DNA testing was conducted at the Johor Bahru Veterinary Laboratory last month.
He said the fetal anomaly was a common occurrence among animals but the percentage was very small, namely, only one per cent and among factors contributing to such disorder were lack of nutrients and disease infections.
Meanwhile, Dr Kamaruddin said the department was practicing an open policy in approving applications for import of live animals and meat such as beef, mutton and chicken pieces.
A recent newspaper report claimed that the Veterinary Services Department had made decisions which only favoured the big players in the industry.
