No information of Malaysia being hub for match fixing - IGP
Khalid says police had not received information on such allegations either from FIFA or the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) or any other sources.
Police have not received information that Malaysia is the hub of match-fixing in Southeast Asia said Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar on Tuesday.
Khalid said police had not received information on such allegations either from FIFA or the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) or any other sources.
He said police are a member of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) Integrity Committee set up to tackle corruption and match-fixing.
"We have taken active measures to maintain integrity in the sport and we will continue to do so," he said in a statement.
Khalid was responding to Independent Advisor on Sports Integrity, Chris Eaton's remarks at a forum on match-fixing organised by the Global Lottery Monitoring System in Nov 7 at Singapore.
Eaton was quoted by international media as saying "Malaysia has Overtaken Singapore as the Hub for Sports Match-fixing" in Southeast Asia.
Khalid said police welcomed any information that would suggest that the sports industry in Malaysia has been tainted.
"However such information must be credible and supported by tangible proof," he said. -- BERNAMA
