Sarawak is still safe from the threat of Daish militants, said Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mazlan Mansor.

He said, however, the police had never taken lightly the possibility the Daish militants were already in the state and surveillance was always been done.

"From the onset, the Sarawak police are always alert, our borders are always monitored and all efforts are made to improve security.

"We have uniformed and plainclothes police personnel who are always in the midst of the community to conduct monitoring, especially at places thronged by people," he told reporters during his Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house at his official residence here today.

He said so far police intelligence was ongoing and there had yet been any suspicious information on the presence of terrorist groups in the state.

Mazlan also confirmed so far there had not yet been any information that indicated the involvement of Sarawakians with terrorist groups.

Recently Minister with Special Functions Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Hussein had directed ESSCOM and other security agencies to intensify security controls in the waters of Sabah following the attacks by Daish militants in Marawi, the Philippines that killed 45 Filipino military personnel and an estimated 41 militants.
