The historical visit by U.S. President Barack Obama to Malaysia was overshadowed with protests.

A group of activists gathered outside the American Embassy to protest against the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement, TPPA.

The protesters gathered with banners on their hands while chanting the anti TPPA slogans.

They (protesters) had claimed that the agreement which involved 10 countries only benefited the United States of America.

Obama’s visit has raised fears as it would affect Putrajaya’s decision to sign the agreement.

Other groups have also planned several peaceful rallies near the entrance of the University of Malaya (UM), where Obama is expected to meet the young leaders of ASEAN on Sunday.

Brickfields district chief police ACP Muhammad Azlee Abdullah said policemen had been placed on standby and action will be taken if the rallies turned violent.

"The police department has provided about 400 policemen to be in control.

"But we (the police) will not stop the rallies as long as it does not go against the Peaceful Assembly Act," he said when contacted by Astro Awani.
