The murder of Arab Malaysian Banking Group (Ambank) founder Hussain Ahmad Najadi is not linked to the investigation involving government investment fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar was responding to a question regarding the politically-motivated blog, Sarawak Report's article which linked the murder case to a bank transaction related to corruption.
“This is an irresponsible act. They deliberately want to spread a news that is incorrect and defamatory. We are still investigating this matter.
“There is no link between the murder of Hussain and the 1MDB investigation... no relation at all,” said Khalid.
He added that the public know about the motive of the case and the killer is already detained.
“I want to confirm that there is no police report allegedly made by Hussain before he was killed, regarding a large sum of money being deposited into the bank.
“We are investigating the cause and will take action against those who spread false news,” said Khalid, advising the public to be extra careful when leaving comments as it becomes a heated issue.
In September last year, a driver Koong Kwan Swee was sentenced to death over the murder of Hussain.
Three months earlier, a taxi driver was jailed for 14 years and six strokes of rotan for the possession of the gun used to shoot Hussain and his wife.
