No notice to police on April 2 gathering - IGP

The police have yet to be notified of a gathering proposed to be held here on April 2 to call on Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to step down as the prime minister.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the organiser must adhere to the provisions of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.
"Anyone intending to hold a gathering must notify the police (10 days) earlier. Without such a notice, the police will act firmly against the offenders," he told reporters after participating in a police 'Trim & Fit' programme held in conjunction with the 209th Police Day today.
The opposition Pakatan Harapan pact had announced it planned to hold a gathering on April 2 at Dataran Merdeka to call on Najib to step down.
Asked to comment on a closed-door gathering to be held at the Shah Alam Convention Centre on Sunday, Khalid said action would be taken against anyone who made speeches of a seditious nature.
On another matter, Khalid said the police would not compromise with any quarters, even their own personnel, found to have been involved with the Daesh militant group.
"The police will not show favouritism. Firm action will be taken if enforcement personnel are involved with Daesh.
"We do not want the Daesh ideology to gain a foothold in our country," he said.
A police personnel was one of 15 people arrested yesterday on suspicion of involvement in the Daesh militant group.
The 11 men and four women, aged between 22 and 49, were held in Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Perak, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Terengganu in an operation conducted by the Counter Terrorism Division of the Special Branch from Tuesday to yesterday.
