PETALING JAYA: PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said there is no cooperation officially between PKR and UMNO and that the matter is still at an early discussion level.
He said the discussions so far only involved individual support of cooperation by several UMNO MPs.
“There are several UMNO MPs who support (personally), but (support) as a party no decision yet. Discussions with UMNO (MPs) are ongoing.
“I do not discount the possibility (of PKR-UMNO cooperation) but it is still too early, premature for me to decide,” he told a media conference here today.
Earlier, he chaired the party’s Supreme Council meeting, which was also attended by secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
Recently, through an interview with a local newspaper, Anwar revealed that there were unofficial talks between his party and UMNO on the possibility of collaborating in the 15th General Election (GE15).
Meanwhile, he stressed that PKR remained committed with Pakatan Harapan (PH), including continuing to work together with the coalition’s component parties in GE15.
On the action of several PKR leaders, including MPs, in leaving the party and voicing their support for Perikatan Nasional (PN), Anwar claimed that PN still did not have the majority support despite their actions.
“PN claims to have 111 (MPs). If we take a portion of that (from 111) who have declared their support for me, they (PN) will technically be left with 100, I would say. I still have adequate numbers,” he said.
