The Higher Education Ministry has no plans to develop a centralised data bank of degree and diploma holders in the country.
Its deputy minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah said employers or individuals can obtain such information from the respective education institutions.
“Detailed data banks for degree and diploma holders exist in the related higher education institutions,” he told the Dewan Rakyat today.
He was addressing a question by Datuk Nasir Ibrahim Fikri (BN – Kuala Nerus) on whether the government plans to set up a system to address the problem of fake degrees.
Saifuddin also said the ministry had already developed an information system and data base known as the My MOHES and the IPT Formation Management System (IFMS) to help improve the country’s higher education management system.
“This is to ensure that the information and data provided will always be precise, new and usable for the purpose of policy formulation and development planning of a sustainable higher education system,” said Saifuddin.
It was recently highlighted that there has been an increasing number of individuals found to be using bogus degrees, diplomas and certificates in order to secure jobs.
