No protest by taxi drivers today - PERPEKLI president

There will be no protest by taxi drivers in Kuala Lumpur today, said Federal Territory and Selangor Taxi Operators Association (PERPEKLI) president Datuk Aslah Abdullah.

He was commenting on a rumour saying that there will a second protest in front of the Pavilion shopping centre along Jalan Bukit Bintang here on April 4.

Nevertheless, Aslah did not deny the possibility of a second wave of protest anytime soon.

"Initially we planned to do a second protest on April 4, but no final decision was made.

"I think there will be another protest soon as no action has been taken by the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) since the first protest," he told Astro Awani on Monday.

However, Aslah reminded taxi drivers to be more considerate and not to cause any difficulties to the people.

"If you cause trouble to people and other road users, Uber and GrabCar would just clap their hands.

"The main reason why we are protesting is because both of these services are left to operate without any conditions, while taxi drivers have to abide by many rules and regulations by SPAD such as the size of the car, car colour, licences and so on," he said.

On March 29, a group of taxi drivers staged a massive protest against ride-sharing services Uber and Grabcar, as they claimed that SPAD had failed to take any action against the two services.
