No restrictions on communications and internet during Bersih rally

Minister of Communication and Multimedia Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak said there will be no restrictions on communications and internet during the Bersih 4.0 rally scheduled to be held on August 29.
The ministry will however closely monitor websites and blogs in relation to the rally.
“The Communication and Multimedia Commission will monitor blogs and websites which uploads information or developments on Bersih 4.0,” said Salleh.
Asked if a jamming tower will be placed to block phone signals and Internet data during the rally, he said the issue was not raised.
Meanwhile, Youth and Sports Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin hopes that no untoward incident would occur during the Bersih 4.0 rally on August 29 and 30.
He added that he does not want anyone especially the young people to break the laws imposed by the authorities.
“I hope no untoward incident would take place... for security forces to carry out their duty in maintaining the peace in Kuala Lumpur on both the days (August 29 and 30).
“I hope no one especially the young people will violate any law or ordinance which has been laid by the police and the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL),” said Khairy during a press conference held fater witnessing the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between XMT Technologies with 3Roam and Damm Cellular Systems here, today.
The police on Tuesday regard the proposed Bersih 4.0 rally as illegal because it does not meet the conditions of a peaceful assembly under the peaceful Assembly Act 2012.

DBKL also rejected the organiser’s application to use Dataran Merdeka and Padang Merbok as the location was being used for the National Day preparations.
They have instead proposed for the rally to be held the weekend after the National Day celebration.
