There will be no special treatment for Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who is currently serving his five-year sentence at the Sungai Buloh prison.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Anwar will be treated just like other prisoners there.
Ahmad Zahid said the Prisons Department will not offer any special treatment to the 67-year-old veteran politician and stressed that all will be treated equally.
Certain quarters raised the question if Anwar would be given special treatment during his five years in the prison.
The Federal Court had, on Tuesday, rejected Anwar’s final appeal to set aside his conviction for sodomising Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, 30, in 2008. The five-judge panel, led by Chief Justice of Malaysia Tun Arifin Zakaria, also upheld the High Court’s five-year jail sentence on Anwar.
