'No such thing as UMNO members joining Bersih rally' - Ku Nan
KU NAN: I hope the public won't be deceived or influenced by allegations made by Bersih.
UMNO secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor refuted an allegation that UMNO members would also participate in the planned Bersih 4.0 rally to be held this weekend.
"There is an allegation saying that UMNO grassroots supporters will be involved in the rally. My answer is, it is all a lie by Bersih," he said.
He hoped the public would not be easily deceived or influenced by allegations made by Bersih 2.0, the rally organiser.
He told this to reporters after the prize presentation ceremony of the Art Expression @ Kuala Lumpur Lake Garden Festival (KLLGF) 2015 here Sunday.
Also present were Tourism and Culture Ministry's deputy secretary-general (culture), Datuk Ab Ghaffar A Thambi, and National Culture and Arts director-general, Datuk Norliza Rofli.
Tengku Adnan, who is also Federal Territories Minister, was commenting a news portal report claiming that UMNO members would also participate in the rally.
He said the Kuala Lumpur City Hall was firm in not allowing Dataran Merdeka to be used as a venue for the rally so as not to disrupt preparations for the National Day celebration to be held at the location.
"City Hall will not give permission for Dataran Merdeka and Padang Merbok as location for the rally. If they want (to hold the rally), go to the Malawati Stadium in Shah Alam or elsewhere, not in KL," he added.
The police had previously asked the organiser to change the location of their proposed rally, which was planned at Dataran Merdeka and Padang Merbok, to other locations as they are not suitable to be used as a venue for the rally.
