Sarawak state government has decided not to impose any charges at the Lanang Bridge in Sarawak effective May 25.
Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem said the decision was made to ease the burden of the people in Sarawak from being burdened with toll charges.
Currently there are three bridges where tolls are imposed namely Tun Salahudin Bridge in Kuching, Lanang Bridge in Sibu & Asean Bridge in Miri. He also said negotiations with the concessionaire of Tun Salahudin Bridge & Asean Bridge to make it toll-free has started.
The government has also abolished the toll at Igan Bridge in Sibu.
Meanwhile, Adenan also expressed the move will further ease the burden of the people in the rural areas -- where many rely on the ferry.
The state government has agreed to streamline the ferry fare charges for carrying passenger cars at a standardised rate of RM1 only.
