Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said the noble duty of teachers was still primary in ensuring the excellence of the present and future generations.
He said the teachers persevered and worked hard because they wanted the best for their students.
"I can still remember during my student days, my teachers were very dedicated. Although they were firm, there was the feeling of love and caring.
"Praise to Allah, I am where I am now because of their guidance," he said in his Teachers' Day speech which had been uploaded on his blog NajibRazak.com on Friday.
Teachers' Day will be celebrated today.
Najib said Teachers' Day is celebrated on May 16 every year to give appreciation to the deeds and sacrifices made by teachers.
The deeds of the teachers will not be forgotten, he said and on behalf of himself and the people of Malaysia thanked the teachers and wished them "Happy Teachers' Day".
