An initial investigation by Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) showed that the fatal building collapse in Pulau Sebang, Alor Gajah near here yesterday was probably the result of not complying to safe work procedures.
DOSH in a statement today said that further investigations would be carried out by the Forensic Division and Building Construction Safety Division of the department to identify the main cause of the incident.
"DOSH has issued cessation notice for construction works at the site.
"The department will take legal action if there is any violation of the Factories and Machinery Act 1967 and Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994," said the statement.
In the 2.15pm incident, three construction workers, all Myanmar nationals, were killed, after the parking lot of a shopping mall under construction collapsed.
Three others were seriously injured while another three suffered minor injuries.
