The North Korea's second rocket launch plan can lead to the escalation of tensions in the Korean Peninsula, and endanger peace, stability and security in the region, said Foreign Minister Datuk Seri
Anifah Aman.
He called on North Korea to fully respect the United Nations Security Council resolutions and presidential statement issued on April 16.
"Malaysia believes that all efforts should aim at reaffirming the commitment to maintain regional peace and security, and establishing a peaceful environment in the Korean Peninsula in particular, and northeast Asia in general, an environment that will be conducive and vital to North Korea's economic development," he said in a statement today.
He urged all relevant parties to exercise utmost restraint and avoid actions that would aggravate the situation in the Northeast Asia region.
North Korea last Saturday announced its plan to carry out its second rocket launch between Dec 10 and 22.
Its first rocket launch April this year ended in failure when it crashed into the Yellow Sea minutes after lift-off.
