North Korea should appreciate its relations with Malaysia by respecting the sovereignty and laws of the country, said UMNO Youth leader Khairy Jamaluddin today.
He regarded the action by North Korea in questioning investigations by the Malaysian authorities on Kim Jong-nam's murder as "going beyond the limits of diplomacy that can be considered disrespectful and rude".
"Malaysia has never asked to interfere in police investigations in other countries or obstruct an autopsy from being conducted when a crime happened in another country, even if it involved our citizens.
"I hope the government will monitor closely the situation and if required, we should review Malaysia's diplomatic relations with North Korea," he told reporters after attending the National Transformation Dialogue (TN50) here today.
On Feb 13, Jong-nam, the half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, was at the KL International Airport 2 (klia2) at about 8am, waiting for his flight to Macau, when a woman suddenly covered his face with a cloth laced with what is believed to be poison.
Jong-nam, who arrived in Malaysia from Macau on Feb 6 using a passport with the name Kim Chol, sought help at a customer service counter and was rushed to the Putrajaya Hospital, but died on the way. - BERNAMA
