'Not appropriate for UMNO leaders to express anger on social media' - Syed Ali

KUALA LUMPUR: UMNO leaders are advised not to use social media platforms as a medium to vent their anger and attack the party leadership openly, especially involving the presidential institution.

Former Cheras UMNO division chief Datuk Seri Syed Ali Al-Habshee explained that it was undeniable that party leaders and members were allowed to speak out and express their views and stances but the method should be prudent through party channels.

"UMNO's focus should be given to face various unexpected possibilities in the next General Election (GE) because any political party will be the victim of attacks by their rivals.

"The weak party will be weakened while the strong will strengthen themselves as strong as possible. Because of that, UMNO needs the wisdom to organise its strategy," he said in the latest post on his Facebook page on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, he said, UMNO needs to remain focused on preparations for the 15th General Election (GE15).

He said the nightmare experienced during GE14 in May 2018 should be the impetus for the party to rise again with all its strength.

"This is because the confidence of the people, especially the Malays towards UMNO remains intact despite a slight erosion of power and support.

"In my opinion, UMNO still has a chance to return as a respected party if its leadership is always balanced in addressing various current political issues.

"I am worried that if the UMNO leadership shows a pointing finger and puts the blame on others, it will have a negative impact on the party's followers and supporters at the grassroots level," he said.
