Not a 'back door' government - Anwar Ibrahim

Anwar said his new government had a formidable and convincing majority.

"This is not a 'back door' government.

"This is a government that has a mandate and gets support with clear principles and policies.

"Those who decide to join (the new government) should accept a government that respects integrity, good governance, anti-corruption and (upholds) rule of law," he said at an emergency press conference at a hotel here on Wednesday.

The Port Dickson MP also said that they had been making preparations for months and had finally obtained a majority of parliamentary seats to form a new government.

In fact, he said, he had the support of a majority close to two-thirds.

"This is not (done) overnight. We have been making this plan for months.

"Now that we have gained the majority, we have made an announcement," he said.

He added that the new government that will be formed will comprise the majority of Malay MPs.

"Of course it (will be formed) with a majority (MP) Malays, bumiputera. It also covers all races and religions.

"I will not compromise and I am happy to say those who joined me, they also support me," he said.

Earlier, he claimed to have a strong majority to form a new government in the near future.
