"If DAP could accept Tun Dr Mahathir (Mohamad), perhaps it's not impossible for UMNO to accept PAS and vice versa for the purpose of cooperation," said UMNO information chief Tan Sri Annuar Musa.
He said this was because both parties basically had the same struggle, upheld the same ambitions and were born out of the same 'DNA'.
"There are possibilities in politics, and politics is an art with various possibilities.
"I believe that between the political parties (UMNO and PAS) which uphold similar ambitions and struggle, we are not moving in a parallel manner now and I am confident we will meet at a point in future."
He said this as a speaker in the Fourth Session: Political Discussion' at the Ummah Agenda Empowerment Convention (KPAU) 2.0, chaired by UMNO Supreme Council member Datuk Razali Ibrahim, at the Putra World Trade Centre, here, today.
Annuar said both parties had a lot in common, namely struggling for the religion, besides wishing to see continued peace and prosperity, and ensuring Islam's venerated position.
However, he said, he would leave it to the top UMNO leadership to decide on the matter.
Annuar also said that any Malay parties that collaborated with the opposition pact were under DAP's 'thumb'.
"PKR, Parti Amanah Negara and the latest, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia which are subservient to DAP have no dignity in their political struggle," he added. --Bernama
