N.Sembilan govt in process of taking back NFC land
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said currently meat production in the state could only meet 30 per cent of total demand which was growing.
The Negeri Sembilan government is now in the process of taking back the land used by the National Feedlot Centre (NFC) in Gemas, and plans to operate the farm which is now poorly run.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said this was to ensure sufficient supply of meat in the state to meet the demand because currently meat production in the state could only meet 30 per cent of total demand which was growing.
"Previously in 2007, the state government through the Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI) had leased out a piece of land measuring 607.5 hectares
(1,500 acres) to NFC. The method to be implemented will be different from the method employed by NFC because we will do it on a smaller scale.
"As an example, we will break it up into small feedlots and will give these smaller farms to existing farm entrepreneurs to operate," he said when replying to an oral question from Abdul Rahman Mohd Redza (BN-Linggi) at the State Assembly sitting, here today.
Mohamad, who is also the State Assemblyman for Rantau, said the government planned to place 10 cattle and sheep breeders in the farm and they would run the farms together using the existing facilities such as the slaughter house jointly.
"If one breeder was facing problems, there were still others who could provide their produce," he said.
