NUCC 'Voice of the Grassroots' dialogue begins

The National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC) in collaboration with UKM's Institute of Ethnic Studies (KITA) kickstarts its first national dialogue session at Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka today.

The dialogue is aimed at enabling NUCC members to hear the voices of the grassroots on national unity and inter-ethnic harmony in Malaysia.

Besides obtaining positive response, NUCC will also look into the concerns voiced out in regards to national unity and take into account ideas and suggestions given by the public on ways to strengthen ethnic harmony.

NUCC is therefore urging the Malaysian public, social and religious organisations and civil society movements to participate in the talk and to share their views on this matter.

A total of 18 dialogue sessions will be organized by NUCC between February 22, 2014 to March 30, 2014 in a series of events throughout the country where the first session which is today, will be held from 9.00 am to 12.30 pm.

Astro Awani recently interviewed KITA's Principal Research Fellow, Anis Yussuf Yusal to get his comments on the programme.

He said that the voice of the grassroots is important and should be heard if leaders are serious about unity.

He said a good wise leader is always open and willing to listen to the views of the grassroots.
