The number of people evacuated due to flash floods in two Melaka villages has risen to 124 from 103 in the morning, according to the Melaka Disaster Management Committee.
Its secretariat head, Lt Col (PA) Effendy Ali, said the villagers had to move out after heavy rain caused a river to overflow and flood Kampung Bukit Tambun and Kampung Bukit Balai in Alor Gajah at 3.45 am.
He said 87 of the evacuees were being accommodated at the Bukit Tambun community hall and 37 at the Bukit Balai community hall.
