KUALA LUMPUR: The flood situation in Terengganu, Pahang and Perak shows improvement with the number of victims taking shelter in temporary evacuation centres (PPS) falling as of this evening.
In TERENGGANU, State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) secretariat said that the number of victims dropped to 38,574 people compared to 40,456 victims this morning and a total of 277 PPS were opened in Kemaman, Besut, Hulu Terengganu, Dungun, Kuala Nerus, Setiu, Kuala Terengganu and Marang.
In PAHANG, JPBN secretariat said that the flood in Kuantan is receding after only one PPS, at Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Ular which houses 30 people, is still open this evening compared to three PPS which accommodate 221 people this morning.
The Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) reported that the water level of Sungai Keratong, Rompin still exceeds the danger level while in Maran, Sungai Pahang (Lubuk Paku) and Sungai Luit (Kampung Subuh) as well as Sungai Pahang in Paloh Hinai, Pekan, are above the warning level.
In PERAK, JPBN secretariat said that the number of victims dropped to 26 people this afternoon compared to 54 people this morning following the closure of PPS at the Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Abd Rahman hall (SMART), Hilir Perak at 3 pm today and the only PPS operating is at Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Tiang Darat in Bagan Datuk.
In JOHOR, the JPBN secretariat in a statement said that the number of flood victims in Segamat remains at 48 this evening.
According to DID data, the water level at Sungai Muar in Buloh Kasap, Segamat is still at the warning level at 8.54 metres and a flood warning has also been issued for the Sungai Melikai and the surrounding areas, Kampung Jemari, Pengkalan Batu and the surrounding areas in the Mersing district, if the rain continues along with high tide phenomenon.
Meanwhile, the number of flood victims in KELANTAN increased slightly this evening to 31,584 people compared to 31,487 people this morning.
JPBN secretariat said that all the victims were placed in 126 PPS in Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Tanah Merah, Kuala Krai, Machang, Pasir Puteh, Kota Bharu and Bachok.
