Nur Misuari believed to be mastermind behind latest Mabul Island incursion - Home Ministry

The Home Ministry believes that the former leader of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF), Nur Misuari is the individual responsible behind the latest incursion in Mabul Island, Semporna.
A police officer was killed in the attack while another feared kidnapped.
Its Minister, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said investigation by the national security found that the individual used various tactics and mercenary groups to carry out the attack, invasion and kidnapping in the island.
It is believed that the invasion and kidnapping by Nur Misuari is aimed at raising funds to revive his military wings.
“In this matter we believe that he is trying to regain his influence in the south of Philippines and it is not impossible that the funds collected through this hostage will be used to revive his military wings,” said Ahmad Zahid during a press conference held after the breaking of fast event held together with the ministries at the Al Mujahiddin mosque at the Tabuan Jaya police headquarters on Tuesday.
Touching on the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM) which has been taken over by the police, the matter is in accordance to the standard operating procedure (SOP) set.
Ahmad Zahid also urged the public to cooperate with the national security in delivering authentic information to the government for the common good.
He added that Malaysian authorities are working closely with its partners in the Philippines in addressing the situation.
ESSCOM chairman Datuk Sri Panglima Musa Aman also announced nine additional SOPs to the current SOPs with additional SOPs from the Home Ministry.
He also hoped that the issue would gain the support of the people in the area.
