Nurul Izzah divorce case: Apr 17 to finalise reconciliation committee

Lower Syariah Court judge Ab Malek Awang has ordered Lembah Pantai member of Parliament Nurul Izzah Anwar and husband Raja Ahmad Shahrir Iskandar Raja Salim to appoint members for a reconciliation committee.

Ab Malek has set Apr 17 for both sides to present their committee members and June 12 as the date for the committee’s report presentation.

Normawaddah Ramli acted for Nurul Izzah while Zulkifli Che Yong on behalf of Raja Ahmad Shahrir Islandar.

Zulkifli told The Star that a reconciliation committee is formed when one party does not agree for divorce.

Nurul Izzah, 34, the eldest child of opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, filed a request for divorce under Section 47 of Islamic Family Law Act 1984 which deals with the dissolution of marriage through divorce by talak or court order.

The couple were married on May 9, 2003 and have a daughter, aged 7, and a son, 4.
