Obama to visit National Mosque and University Malaya
US President Barack Obama will visit the National Mosque and hold a town-hall style event at University Malaya on his visit to Malaysia next week.
Aside from meeting with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, he is also expected to meet with civil rights leaders in the country. The town-hall event will be one where he will meet with young leaders from ten Southeast Asian countries.
Obama will also be travelling to Japan, South Korea and the Philippines on his week-long trip which will begin this Tuesday, announced the White House.
According to the US’ National Security Advisor Susan Rice, there will be no summits involved in this trip.
“So the agenda in each country can focus intensively on energizing our bilateral relationships and advancing the different elements of our Asia strategy," she said at a briefing to reporters.
Obama will be meeting with business leaders in Japan and Korea, inspect an electronic vehicle called the ‘Comet’ in the Philippines and lay a wreath at the national war memorial in Seoul.
This trip comes after a previous trip to Southeast Asia scheduled in October last year was cancelled due to the partial US government shutdown.
