Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today reminded Hajj pilgrims to obey the laws of Saudi Arabia and to avoid engaging in illegal acts there.

He said additional security measures have also been undertaken by the kingdom following terror attacks at the Masjid al-Nabawi last month.

“I was informed that the Saudi Arabia government had carried out additional security steps like 10-digits biometric fingerprint scan,” he said in his speech today.

“The machine is also placed at the entrance of hotels and the bracelet also contains chip to ensure the pilgrims’ safety there,” he added.

He said the government had channelled RM8,910 subsidy per pilgrim through Tabung Haji, adding that the total cost of the subsidy was RM160 million.

The Prime Minister also advised the pilgrims not to smear the country’s good name.

“Avoid negative elements which can affect the country’s image and ties between Malaysia and Saudi Arabia,” he said.

A total of 450 pilgrims will be leaving to Saudi Arabia today to perform their hajj.
