The Sessions Court here today fixed Oct 30 for mention of a case on a local politician charged with sedition.
David Orok, who contested for the Sulaman state seat on a State Reform Party (Star) ticket in the 13th General Election, was alleged to have made comments insulting Islam and Prophet Muhammad on the social website Facebook.
The 49-year-old politician, who is on a RM7,000 bail, had pleaded not guilty on Sept 3 to the offence allegedly committed on July 4 at an unnumbered house in Kampung Roun, Jalan Labuaya, Topokon in Tuaran.
Orok, who was present in court, faces a fine of up to RM5,000 or a jail term of up to three years or both, if convicted under Section 4(1)(c) of the Sedition Act 1948.
Counsels Tengku Ahmad Fuad and Hendry Gudit requested for the mention date before judge Ainul Shahrin Mohamad in order for the defence to seek a plea bargain for their client.
However, Deputy Public Prosecutor Dominic Chew said the prosecution was still awaiting relevent evidence on the case.
