One person is missing while 10 others were rescued when a boat they were travelling in overturned after being hit by waves in Kuala Paloh, Kabong, Saratok in the 12.52pm incident today.
According to a Saratok Fire and Rescue Department chief Kho Boo Jang, the missing passenger had been identified as Abang Madehan Abang Awi, 43.
He said the boat was on its way to Paloh from Kabong to deliver drinking water to residents since they were facing a drought.
"At that time, it started raining heavily and encountered strong winds. As soon as they reached Kuala Paloh, the boat was suddenly hit by waves and overturned," he said when contacted by Bernama.
The department, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) and villagers who were involved in the search and rescue operation for the missing passenger, had to abort the operation due to darkness but the search and rescue mission will continue at 7am tomorrow morning. - BERNAMA
