One of seven suspects detained has previous criminal record

Only one of the seven suspects detained in connection with the murder of deputy public prosecutor Anthony Kevin Morais has a previous criminal record said police.

Federal CID director Datuk Seri Mohmad Salleh said only one of the suspects, aged 52, had a criminal record.

Morais, who was attached to the Attorney-General's Chambers, was reported missing on Sept 4 after leaving his Menara Duta residence, for work.

Mohmad Salleh said the body of Morais was found after one of the suspects led police to a swampy area at Taman Perumahan USJ 1, Persiaran Subang Mewah, near the Klang River where a drum containing his body was dumped.

He said the seven, comprising four men aged between 22 and 52, two women and a child, were detained yesterday after investigations had started after Morais' disappearance on Sept 4.

Mohmad Salleh said investigations revealed that the two women and the child had no connection with the murder.

Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur CID chief Zainuddin Ahmad when contacted said the four suspects would be remanded for seven days starting today.

Morais, 55, the deputy chief of the Appellate and Trial Division in the Attorney-General's Chambers, was last seen leaving his condominium unit at Menara Duta, Kuala Lumpur, on Sept 4 for his office in Putrajaya, driving a grey Proton Perdana car with registration number WA6264Q.
