Ongkili slams DAP's Impian Sabah project in Kota Marudu
Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili has slammed the DAP's RM20,000 gravity water project in Kampung Samparita Laut, Kota Marudu as nothing sensational, coming from a big, rich party.
He said while such effort was better than nothing, the DAP was doing it for political mileage and to spread their political agenda of misleading the people and rubbishing what the government did.
He said there was no such thing as gravity water to benefit 200 folks as there was already gravity water supply in Kampungg Samparita Laut, except for about 20 homes with new settlers.
"If the opposition wants to help, they are welcome to do so as there is sufficient work for everyone to help the lower income group, both in rural and urban areas.
"I used to do the same in many villages when we were in the opposition. But in the end, it is only the Barisan Nasional which can truly deliver real, sustainable development, especially to rural people in Sabah," Ongkili said in a statement here, Sunday.
The Kota Marudu member of parliament urged the DAP to carry out more such projects in opposition-held areas such as Moyog, Bingkor, Kapayan, Kadamaian, Penampang and even Kota Kinabalu.
He noted that even Kota Kinabalu had urban poverty in the heart of the city and outskirts, including many poor squatter areas which had largely opposition supporters.
Ongkili said there was still enormous work to be done to develop rural Sabah and the state government was making efforts to fulfill their needs, together with non-governmental organisations.
Last Thurday, DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang launched the first Impian Sabah project to build a gravity-feed-water system at Kampung Samparita Laut.
