Online police reports beginning next year
The public will be able to make police reports via an online portal starting next year, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said.
He said the online police report portal was in the final stage of being prepared.
"This is one of the police efforts to facilitate the public. They can make the report wherever they are, just by using the Internet," he told a press conference after launching the Sabak Bernam Crime Awareness Programme on Thursday.
Khalid said the portal was being developed by the Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (Mampu).
He said several matters were currently being assessed, including the legal aspects and its effectiveness and how to ensure the validity of the reports received.
"We believe this online police report portal will facilitate the public (to make reports) because the majority of the people are using gadgets and smart phones with Internet access, which is also time-saving," he said.
