No arrests have been made so far following the raid at the office of news portal Malaysiakini and The Star Online by police and the Ministry of Multimedia and Communication (MCMC), said deputy chief of police Datuk Seri Noor Rashid Ibrahim.
He said police are currently analysing the evidence gathered before taking further action, including recording statements from individuals involved.
“So far we have gathered the evidence. We want to see the type of information spread. That’s all. At this stage, no arrests have been made,” said Noor Rashid at a press conference held here today.
The office of the two online portals was raided on Friday over a report on the transfer of a deputy public prosecutor attached to MACC.
Kuala Lumpur Criminal Investigation Department head Datuk Zainuddin Ahmad said the raid was conducted following a report by an officer from the Attorney-General Chambers last Tuesday.
Zainuddin said the police and officers from MCMC went to the office of the two news portals in Petaling Jaya at about 6 pm.
Last Monday, a news portal reported on the transfer of a MCMC deputy public prosecutor who was involved in the arrest of several witnesses in the probe on SRC International Sdn Bhd (http://www.malaysiakini.com/news/318159).
On the same day, MACC Investigation Director Datuk Azam Baki denied the report on Ahmad Shazalee's transfer and said that the deputy public prosecutor was still with the commission and was given a promotion.
