Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) president Datuk Prof Dr Sim Kui Hian lashed out at the opposition party in Sarawak, saying that they had never fought for federal fund for development in Sarawak but were only busy criticizing the ruling party.
Hence, Sim who is Sarawak Local Government Minister said there was no need for the people to give their hopes and votes to the opposition as they could do nothing for the State and people, adding that voters in Tanjong Datu should give their votes to Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Datuk Amar Jamilah Anu in the by-election in order to continue with the development in the constituency.
Asked on the attractive packages for the approximately 1,600 voters in Tanjong Datu, Sim said it was important to continue supporting former chief minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem's legacy in the constituency.
"It has been said many times that since Tok Nan (Adenan) became the wakil rakyat here, the land value here has increased by double if not triple.
"This is because of the development taking place in the area (Lundu)," he said during a walk-about here this morning, adding that the speed of infrastructure development here had been tremendous.
"The next thing that the government wants to do here is to bring in more economic activities for the people especially the young so that they can have better income and better living," he said.
He said with the completion of the Pan Borneo Highway it would shorten travelling time, thus attracting more people to visit the area, stay and do business in Lundu.
On the wish list of the people here, Sim said Sarawak was way behind compared to West Malaysia and that it was important to Sarawak to have a strong voice to fight for more fund and development for the State.
On the people's request for a new hospital in Lundu, Sim, who is in-charge of health in Sarawak, said he would continue to fight for it and would bring the matter to the attention of the Prime Minister, adding that he was fighting not just for the new hospital in Lundu but also new hospitals in other parts of the state.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to have walkabout this Friday (Feb 10) in Lundu. - BERNAMA
