Opposition questions Selangor Foundation's annual loss of RM4.8m

An opposition member in the Selangor State Assembly raised the issue on the management of the Selangor Foundation over the loss of income of RM4.8 million a year in rental of its building in Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur.

Sulaiman Razak (BN-Permatang) said the commercial building owned by the foundation was vacated since two years ago for repair, but it was learnt that until today the development order from the Kuala Lumpur City Hall had yet to be obtained.

With the building vacated, the Selangor Foundation is losing RM400,000 a month in rental, he said when debating the Supply 2014 Bill Monday.

Sulaiman also raised the issue on the foundation's building in Petaling Jaya where 80% of the tenants had left and also on the status of a proposed development project Kampung Pandan in KL.

Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim (pic), in response to issues raised by Sulaiman, said he would instruct the Selangor Foundation to prepare a report on the foundation's progress since 2008 to be distributed to members of the House.

However, he said a total of 5,000 Selangor born-children currently received aid from the Selangor Foundation, from 2,000 people previously.

The education allocation from Selangor Foundation has also been increased from RM10 million to RM30 million, he added.

On the status of the foundation's commercial building, Abdul Khalid said the foundation would have to call for the tender to repair the building again.

"There is a delay in the renovation of the building. If it is renovated, we can rent it out, but we don't want to rent it out until we get a good price for the building and the contract," he told reporters when met after the sitting.
